Excellency of Knowledge of Christ, Part 13: Complete In Christ
Complete In Christ
By Tammy Lacock
“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” (Colossians 2:10, KJV)
Warren Litzman begins by reminding us that God’s work is finished. It was finished at the cross. All we need to do is believe. Our problem now is not in God’s doing, it’s in our receiving. In it’s our lack of learning and knowledge of who we are in Christ where we remain stuck. In Warren’s words, God has dumped a big bucket of Grace on us, and yet we don’t even know it to receive it.
In this Part 13 of The Excellency of the Knowledge of Christ, Warren shares, through Paul’s epistles, what it means to be complete in Christ and what happens in our completion. Our completion comes from two important commitments in which God’s plan operates.
One commitment is made by God and is far reaching and deep beyond our comprehension. His commitment is full of grace and love. His commitment runs the universe. Warren explains that God is love and, therefore, in His deep commitment to us, He desires love in return.
The other commitment is made by us, and yet about 90 percent of Christians are not committed to Christ. This happens through our lack of knowledge of who we are in Christ as believers. We have yet to present ourselves to God. Through Paul’s epistles, we learn of that commitment and through that commitment, we ultimately learn of God’s commitment to us, His amazing Grace and Mercy in our completion, and our new Life in Christ.
In order to understand our commitment and our return of love to God, we must first try to understand, at least in part, God’s commitment to us.
In Ephesians 1:4, Paul tells us we were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. God committed to complete us by union with Christ, in Christ, even before the world was created!
In John 3:16, John shares, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God loves us so much, that He gave His Son to die, to conquer sin and death, so that we could live forever in Him! Christ is a gift to us to complete us.
God knew, and proved throughout history, that no man could love God in return; man would continually fall short of His glory. Not even obedience to the law would work. God knew in the beginning that the only way we could ever return His love would be to place a part of Himself, His Son with His own God-nature, in us to be our new Life. This would be the only way we would come back to Him. In Christ, we are now His bona fide children. Through God’s relentless grace, all we need to do is believe in Christ. Yet He is committed to us in that He wants us now to know and love Christ in our commitment to Him.
Through Paul’s epistles, the Holy Spirit comforts us in our new life in Christ. He teaches us how we are to live now that we are complete in Christ. Paul’s epistles remind us of our marriage to Christ. To know and love Christ is to know and love our Heavenly Father.
God doesn’t need our love in return but because of His Son’s death on the cross, He desires it. For His Son did not die in vain but to give us new life and life more abundantly. In Him, we are complete.
